Introduction

As part of hybridisation programs with Hibiscus section Furcaria autopolyploids and allopolyploids have been produced by colchicine treatment, and have also occurred spontaneously among the offspring of hybrids.

Hibiscus cannabinus (autotetraploid)

Autotetraploids of Hibiscus cannabinus (AAAA) have been produced. [1]

Hibiscus surattensis × asper (allotetraploid)

Allotetraploids of Hibiscus surattensis × asper (AABB) have been produced. These may represent synthetic Hibiscus acetosella (AABB). [2]
